Hi!
I am looking for guidelines to identify if the CMDB data is sitting in right tables.
In one of my customer instance, CMDB data is loaded/maintained manually. I see that data is not put up in right tables.
Ex - Mobile data is sitting in Computer table.
Firewalls data is sitting in Server table etc.
Is there really a way to clean this up?
To my knowledge, its a tedious job and we need infrastructure team to identify and correct them.
I posted this question to see in case you came across this situation and how you handled.
Thanks in advance 🙂
My sincere request - please dont reply for the sake of replying/earning thumbs up..

@Suggy - We went through a similar cleanup effort. We started by looking at the models and determining which model belongs to which class, then from there we backed into making sure all CIs of that model were in the right class. Then we groups all the CIs with no model information by existing CIs and reviewed with the appropriate teams. Most of this work was done in working sessions with the teams... so all the servers were reviewed in a meeting with the server team and they told us which ones did not belong and, if they knew, which team was responsible for those items so we could follow up. They also had the opportunity to ask about things they felt were missing from their list so we could go find them and determine if they were incorrectly classified.
It's not the easiest cleanup and certainly depends on how many CIs you're talking about for review, but it was not nearly as daunting a task as it felt at first. It really takes buy-in from the end users that they want it and discipline to ensure you're reviewing everything in a very systematic way

Hi @Brian Bouchard Thank you so much for providing your inputs. I have also just started by reviewing the Model and Operting system details and making a list of out of it. I am also planning to have working sessions with all the respective teams to get them corrected. Thanks again!!!
