Have any of you implemented Capacity Planning for SAN, vCPU, RAM etc. in ServiceNow? To add more details on to this - more similar to physical assets like Laptops or Desktops where we have Stock rooms and Stock rules that govern inventory of the assets and are assigned/consumed over period of time....I was looking to implement the same analogy on Enterprise Capacity Planning for future and integrate with new requests for SAN/vCPU/RAM. One of many use cases to start with.

Hi @rajumunta ,
The approach involves extending traditional asset and inventory management to manage enterprise resource capacity over time.
Suggested Approach
Model Resources as Configuration Items (CIs): Create CIs for SAN storage, vCPU, RAM, etc., with attributes such as capacity, utilization, and availability.
Use Stockroom and Inventory Concepts: Track capacity pools, available resources, and consumption/assignment over time, similar to physical asset stock management.
Integrate with Resource Requests: Connect capacity planning with new requests (e.g., SAN allocation, VM provisioning) to enforce validations and update consumption automatically.
Leverage Performance Analytics & Dashboards: Monitor current utilization, forecast future capacity, and identify potential shortages proactively.
Extend with Custom Workflows & Approvals: Automate provisioning and approvals based on capacity thresholds or business rules.
This implementation may require customization and integration depending on your current CMDB, asset management setup, and SPM usage.
Useful Resources
