Clarification on CI Classification and Discovery Mapping

Hi All, 

I have a quick question and would appreciate your help with some Discovery-related queries.

We are currently in the process of restructuring our CMDB and aligning it more closely with the out-of-the-box (OOTB) ServiceNow model.

My questions are below:

• How do we determine, and prove, that a CI should be classified into a particular target class, and how will Discovery put it there?
• How will ServiceNow Discovery identify these CIs and place them into the appropriate target class? 
  • Does identification rules, or reconciliation processes support this classification?

Hi there @Kumar62 

Discovery identifies the CI based on the discovered attributes and then uses the appropriate CI class/patterns to populate it. Identification Rules and Reconciliation Rules are mainly for identifying and updating the CI, not deciding the CI class itself.

check the Discovery Pattern and the CI classification logic for the target class. That will give you the best way to prove why a CI is landing in that class.
