CMDB Discovery Source Check

Hello,

In the CMDB we have a list of approved Discovery Sources for CIs. We would like to set up a notification whenever a Discovery Source is added to a CI that is not in that list. What is the simplest and most efficient way to do this?

Thank you,

Adam

A practical pattern is to keep the approved-source list in a controlled configuration table and trigger a Flow or event when a CI is inserted or its Discovery source changes; compare the new value with that list and notify the CMDB team only when it is not approved. Filter on the Discovery source change so ordinary CI updates do not generate noise. If the goal is to prevent an unauthorized source from changing CI attributes, pair the alert with IRE/source governance rather than treating the notification as enforcement. One nuance: ServiceNow documents that reconciliation rules cannot be created directly for the IRE-managed Discovery source field, so validate which supported source controls apply to your release.
