Getting started with trying to organize our CMDB. First by getting all of our Credentials in line for proper Discovery (as we've already got a good amount of CI's in the CMDB). Second by assigning all of our CI's into Support Groups. I'm primarily asking about the second part (Support groups, Owned by, and Assigned to fields). As of now I'm feeling pretty confident about how to set the Support Group (in the Washington D.C. Release) via Query Builder queries, Dynamic CI groups, and Technical Service Offerings (that link back to the Dynamic CI group). Also how to assign the other fields (owned_by, assigned_to), using business rules.
My primary thrust here is to check in with the community. With all of the services, applications, hosts, and ALL of the CI's that will require different specific Queries for dynamically setting the Support groups... I'm foreseeing an Alexandrian size library of QB's for all of the specific support groups, and all of their servers, applications, and services. Followed up with another library of Business Rules to set the other fields. Is this the normal way and the best practice (OOB) method for accomplishing this, or is there a better way?
