CMDB Remediation/Health Metric

Hi all,

Currently working on the following:

As a owner of servers, I would like to be automatically notified when certain data is missing from the CIs.

So obviously, the place we can see this is at Configuration > CMDB Dashboard > CMDB View

Following from there, I would like to e.g. select the servers and see what required fields are missing.

Then, I would like to remediate those CI's by clicking remediate and sending out a task OR the task is created already once it is detected the field is missing.

So I have been exploring the platform and what I have found

  • Health Metrics ->  Under Configuration > Health Preference.
Only thing here is that I am not sure when I select the 'Required' metric and enable the 'Create Task' if it is enabled for ALL the CIs
  • CMDB Remediation -> need to create a workflow with certain conditions. Knowledge of workflow is limited so did not fully explore it. To be continued maybe.

If you guys can help out, it is highly appreciated!

Regards,

Jaap

Glad my post was helpful!

I haven't done a whole lot with Remediation Workflows.  I find them annoying and limiting although the intention is good.  If I had that requirement, though, I might start off by using a combination of Decision Tables and Flow Designer to make sure I'm triggering an appropriate flow based on the actual audit configuration being addressed, and depending on the complexity of the remediation I might look to use Process Automation Designer to track the overall progress of the remediation, rather than rely on Workflow Designer to manage the entire remediation process.  Again, not that I've actually done this but that might be something to think about.

Yes totally agree on the required vs recommended.

With regard to the audit, it is indeed that we actually focus on completeness and therefore it would be kind of strange to have that one under Compliance. But anyhow I can explore it. Thanks for your message, very helpful 🙂

For those of you coming to this forum post who think it's interesting how we solved this. We have created a script that runs and filters only on the specific class and creates a task for those items that have no remediation task assigned.

Jaap,
Have you considered using Data Certification to filter the list of CIs which are missing the data you want to require or have populated with accurate values. This would allow you to assign Tasks to multiple support groups and monitor the progress of the values being provided. We have a similar situation you outline, and we've been using Data Certification in this way. We've increased the attributes we want with accurate values from 22% to 98% over the past 13 months.
