Guidance on IRE Configuration for HAM Implementation

Hi All,
I am new to configuring Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE) rules and would appreciate some guidance.
We are planning to implement HAM and I would like to understand the recommended approach for configuring IRE for classes such as Computer, Server, Mobile Device, and Network Gear.
I can see that Servicenow provides several OOB identification rules for these classes. Before implementing HAM, should we rely on the OOB rules, or is it recommended to create custom identification rules using additional attributes?

For example, In some documentation and best practice discussions, i have seen recommendations to identify computers using a combination of Serial Number + Model ID. however, I do not see this exact combination in the OOB IRE.

Could someone please clarify:
1. Are the OOB IRE sufficient for HAM implementations?
2.What Identification attributes are commonly used for Computer, Server, Mobile Device, and Networkgear classes?

3.Is it considered a best practice to modify/create IRE before HAM implementation?

Any guidance, recommendations, or real-world experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou

Hi @Sharath807 ,

For implementing HAM, there is generally no need to modify the out-of-the-box (OOB) identification rules unless there is a specific requirement where records are not being identified correctly. Such cases are uncommon, so in most scenarios, no changes are required.

Regarding your second question, the most commonly used identifiers are already included in the OOB rules - for example, serial numbers for computers, servers, and mobile devices.

As for your third question, as mentioned earlier, the existing rules typically work well. Any changes should only be considered if your data is not being identified correctly. otherwise, there is no need to modify them.

Hope this helps
