Help me understanding Choices in ServiceNow platform.

Hello team,

 

I would like to understand how Choices work in ServiceNow platform. E.g. There is a field named Discovery Source in CMDB tables, do we need to add choice for each and every table in cmdb? Or adding at parent level is enough? 

 

What I noticed that it gets inherited but at the same time when we do group_by in list view, it does not consider the classes for which this choice is not explicitly added. Any idea? Should we add choices for each class?

In the dictionary entry of the field name, check the attribute update as 'Can group' and set the Value as 'true'..Please check this way
