Hi Team,

How to change the Display value in cmdb_ci from name to model_id.

I have opened cmdb_ci table, in columns I am notable find display true for any field. I have tried for extended table as well, still not able to find.

I run background script, there it is showing display true as Name only.

Note: I know if I change this it will affect very were we are using cmdb_ci, still okay I need to show how it looks like to customer

Hi @Gopal14

Changing the display value in the cmdb_ci table from name to model_id is not recommended by ServiceNow

Altering the base table’s display value system-wide breaks core platform features

The Risks of Changing the Display Value

  • Setting Display = true on model_id will change how CIs appear in every reference field, list layout, and lookup across the entire platform (e.g., Incident, Change, Problem).
  • CIs frequently share the same model_id. If the display value changes, users will see duplicate, indistinguishable values when trying to search for specific servers, computers, or devices.
  • ServiceNow's Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE), Discovery, and Asset Management rely heavily on the CI name for operational tasks.
