Impact of changing cmdb_ci.business_criticality field from string to choice?

What are the impacts of changing cmdb_ci.business_criticality field from string to choice?

Currently, it is a string field with OOTB configured choices.

Primarily if you update it choices, then alters the underlying data structure in the database. 

for an instance, changing cmdb_ci.business_criticality field will impact all child tables.

I don't think so you're going to face any negative impact on this, existing string values will continue to display correctly if the new choice list matches them.

Altering any field type is strictly not recommended.  In Cmdb_ci_service, OOB business criticality field is dropdown with following choices.

Note: OOB there is no  String business criticality field is associated with . Could you please check your instance and confirm whether String business criticality is custom field?
