Greetings Folks,
I recently attended an interview for an ITOM-specific role, where I was asked a question regarding MID Server installation. The interviewer mentioned that in some ServiceNow versions, the MID Server is no longer downloaded as a ZIP file, and instead, only the MSI installer is available. He stated that the ZIP option has been removed. I’d like to confirm if this is true, and if so, in which versions this change occurred."
Can anyone, please let me know.
Thanks

Yes, that is correct In newer ServiceNow releases like Washington DC and Yokohama, the MSI installer is the primary method for installing the MID Server on Windows systems .
- While the MSI installer is preferred, manual installation using the ZIP file is still possible, especially for unsupported operating systems or environments where MSI installation is blocked.
- For example, Windows 10 and Windows 11 are not officially supported for MID Server installation via MSI. In such cases, users can still manually install the MID Server using the ZIP file.
-
The Rome version marked a shift where 32-bit MID Server installations and upgrades were no longer supported.
-
MSI and RPM installers are blocked on certain operating systems starting from Rome, including:
- CentOS 7
- Windows Server 2008 / 2008 R2
- Windows 8
- Windows 10
-
Despite these restrictions, ZIP-based manual installations are still possible, though they may not be officially supported and could face limitations (e.g., reduced functionality like Discovery) and already @Dr Atul G- LNG have share a link go through it .
