Wireless access point, Router, Switch are these can be created in network gear class and mentioning the device type is best practice or having them created in their class is best practice, no matter the discovery source which works fine?
I would say put them in there correct class rather then use device type. They will still show under network gear since that is the parent class for all network related CIs.
