If you're getting an error while trying to create valid Windows credentials in ServiceNow, here are a few key points to check:
Credential Type
Make sure you're selecting the correct credential type: Windows. In the Discovery Credentials module, click New, then choose Windows Credentials. Avoid using Basic Auth or other types unless explicitly required.Format of Username
Use the correct format: either domain\username or username@domain.com, depending on your environment. An incorrect format will cause validation errors.Password Complexity
Ensure the password doesn't contain unsupported characters or hidden whitespace (copy-paste can add unwanted spaces).MID Server Availability
Check that your MID Server is validated, up, and tagged correctly. If the MID Server can't reach the target or apply credentials, Discovery will fail.Credential Affinity
If using Credential Affinity, ensure it’s configured correctly—this controls what targets your credentials apply to.Permissions of the Account
The Windows account must have proper permissions to allow WMI queries, remote registry, and file share access. Lack of these permissions often causes Discovery failures.Logs and Test Credential
Use Test Credential from the Credential record. If it fails, check the ECC queue and MID Server logs (agent log and probe log) for more detailed errors.Credential Store Plugin
If you're using Credential Store integrations (like CyberArk or HashiCorp), confirm they're properly configured and returning valid secrets.
If you've checked all the above and it's still failing, try recreating the credential from scratch, test it, and confirm that Discovery is running under the correct MID Server context.
Let me know the exact error message if available—it helps narrow down the issue. And if this solves it, consider marking it as resolved for visibility.
