Data Attestation focuses on data currency. You use Attestation to verify that a CI record represents a resources that still exists in your organization. If a CI record fails attestation (e.g. the resource it represents no longer exists) then it becomes a candidate for being retired and removed from the CMDB.
Data Certification focuses on data quality. Fields in records (in CMDB or non-CMDB tables) are reviewed for accuracy and can be updated, or marked as failed and subsequently updated with accurate values.

Hi,
CI Attestation would be to attest that a CI in the CMDB exist in the real world while Data Certification is about validation of the data describing the CI. They work towards the same goal, to have good quality in the CMDB but address it on different levels.
Regards,
Niklas

I am wondering why it's not combined into one feature? one single view?
if i am attesting the physical existence of the CI, it would be more efficient to validate the cmdb data at the same time.
seems counter productive to go to the cmdb workspace to view your attestation task, and then go to the data certification module to see the attest. tasks

We are running Washington DC and just starting with the Data Manager. When I first went in it wanted me to convert the Data Certification tasks to new Certification Tasks that are run through the Data Manager. But does seem strange still to have CDMBTASKS for Attestation and now CMDBTASKS for Certification as well. At least they are all in the same spot under the CMDB Workspace now.

Only users with the itil role can complete a Certification task because the certification is about updating/editing CMDB data. Any user with access to ServiceNow can complete an Attestation, as it is essentially a Survey that does not allow the user to directly edit CMDB data.
