CSDM 3.0 vs CSDM 4.0

Please tell us the following three points about CSDM 4.0.
No.1
What is the difference between CSDM 3.0 and CSDM 4.0?
I read the San Diego and Tokyo documents, but could not find much difference.

No.2
Has CSDM 4.0 been released?
I am not sure, because there is no mention of it in the Tokyo release notes and there is no official CSDM 4.0 whitepaper.

No.3
Is there any site where I can learn about CSDM 4.0?
I would like to learn about CSDM 4.0 because I don't really know which table I should register data in.

I would appreciate it if someone could tell me.
Thank you in advance.

Hi @miyu, two of the main differences between CSDM 3.0 and 4.0 are:

  1. CSDM 4.0 includes a new domain called Build, which contains a single element called SDLC Component.  SDLC Component can be downloaded to your instance using the CMDB CI Class Models plugin.  There isn't all that much to this class.  It defines a field to specify the type of component.  The idea of the class is to specify the independently developed components of a business application.  However, even with the CI class installed there isn't much functionality in the platform to support this yet, and ultimately it is still an optional component that you can skip entirely, and I would recommend doing so unless you have an explicit need for it and the bandwidth to do some development and/or manual data entry to get it to work for you.
  2. CSDM Life Cycle was added to the Foundation domain.  CSDM Life Cycle has more support in the platform, but is still not fully baked.  There are lots of discussions about CSDM Life Cycle in the forum that talk about how it works and how you should prepare to "migrate," but there is still a lot of debate around whether and when you should actually enable this.  At the very least it is something that needs to be carefully planned, integrated into your instance methodically, and tested extensively.

There was no formal event to publish CSDM 4.0.  Rather, a draft was published to the Community and over time and multiple questions about the status of the draft, the owners indicated that there were no planned changes so we should consider the draft as the final release, although there are still some open questions, edits, and shortcomings in the existing version which have been noted elsewhere in the Community forum.

Bottom line: if you follow CSDM 3.0 that's just fine at this point, and I wouldn't be too concerned about the differences in 4.0.

There are lots of resources available for learning and understanding CSDM.  I would suggest watching some videos on YouTube, downloading resources from Now Create, and using the resources available to you here in the Community.  If you have specific questions around where to register data and how to use CSDM, feel free to ask those questions here.  There are lots of smart people here who will be happy to help!  But I would definitely start by reading the white paper and watching some videos on YouTube to get more acquainted.

Hope this was helpful.

With CSDM 4.0, we have a new domain called "Build" domain. You can refer to CSDM 4.0 VS 3.0 to see the additions.

Hi @miyu

- Yes, a draft of CSDM 4.0 has been released ( REFER BELOW LINK)

It is time... CSDM 4.0 DRAFT WHITE PAPER

Please refer the attached PDF..

Hope this answers your question, please mark it as helpful, if it helps.

Sharif, in the interest of maintaining accurate and helpful information I might suggest retracting or editing this reply as it does not address the author's question.  CSM is not the same thing as CSDM.  CSM has nothing to do with the author's question, but all of your responses to question 1 provide content that is about CSM (while incorrectly referring to it CSDM.)  This is a CSDM forum asking about two different releases of CSDM, which is a white paper specifying the framework for modeling applications and services in the CMDB.

CSDM 4.0 introduced the Build Domain for managing the Software Development Life Cycle (manages the source code used to build things)

CSDM 3.0 introduced Foundation data
