The relationship between a business application (how the business sees the application) and the application service (how operations sees the application) and business services (how the consumer sees the application)y, makes sense to me.
Also, the technical service to business service relationship makes sense as well.
Is there ever a case when a business service is related to an application service, which in turn isn't related to a business application?
We're currently cleaning up 15 years worth of "everything is an application" thinking.

In theory, I don’t see a possible use case since Business Application is on top of Application Service in the context of CSDM. That means Design comes first and that’s where the BA comes in place and then you plan the operations and that’s where the AS comes in. But different organizations can have different way of understanding and doing things. Did you encounter any such situation where you don’t need a BA connected to AS?

My interpretation was a business service (how the consumer sees the "application") is related to a technical service if its not part of a business application.
Business Application --> Application Service --> Business Service
Technical Service --> Business Service
