The following is what I understand of the 'encouraged' mapping by ServiceNow:
1. Business Application --> Application Model (cmdb_application_product_model)
2. Application Service --> Software Model (cmdb_software_product_model)
3. Infrastructure (cmdb_ci_hardware) -->. Hardware Model (cmdb_hardware_product_model)
Question - I keep wanting to map Application (cmdb_ci_appl) to Software Model (cmdb_software_product_model), not the Application Service. Can someone help clarify?

Hi @tsondreal,
You are saying that you want to map CIs from the cmdb_ci_appl classes to software models and not to Application Services.
I have somewhat of the same question, and was wondering how you solved it.
If all CIs need a product model, as is stated in CSDM, where do you map records in the cmdb_ci_appl? Is that to the cmdb_hardware_model or to the cmdb_application_product_model? Because the cmdb_software_product_model is 'reserved' for Software Asset Management'.
Cheers,
Arno
