Service mapping with federated CMDB

Organizations often maintain multiple CMDBs (e.g., ServiceNow for service and application layers, BMC Helix for infrastructure). This creates challenges in achieving end-to-end service visibility without duplicating data.

The goal is to use ServineNow demonstrate a federated CMDB approach where:

  • Product → Application → Service hierarchy is modeled in ServiceNow (aligned with CSDM).
  • Infrastructure CIs remain authoritative in Helix, but are referenced or visualized in ServiceNow without full data replication.
  • Updates respect attribute ownership and propagate only to the authoritative source.

Hi @anishkuti

The only solution I can think of to achieve this is to look at Workflow Data Fabric. This allows you to access and visualise data with a zero-copy approach.

I hope this helps!
