Organizations often maintain multiple CMDBs (e.g., ServiceNow for service and application layers, BMC Helix for infrastructure). This creates challenges in achieving end-to-end service visibility without duplicating data.
The goal is to use ServineNow demonstrate a federated CMDB approach where:
- Product → Application → Service hierarchy is modeled in ServiceNow (aligned with CSDM).
- Infrastructure CIs remain authoritative in Helix, but are referenced or visualized in ServiceNow without full data replication.
- Updates respect attribute ownership and propagate only to the authoritative source.
