The Parent Service is not in true state error

Hi,

 

While updating the Technical Service Offering Name and Parent fields in service_offering table I'm facing the below error

 

"The Parent service is not in true state , this offering cannot be made in Use".

 

Can someone please help how to resolve this issue.

This typically means that the Parent Service associated with your Service Offering is not in an active, operational, or expected state. ServiceNow often enforces relationships and validation rules to ensure data integrity across dependent tables.

 

Check below to resolve the issue.

 

1. Check before business rule, script, or condition checking the state of the Parent Service.

2. Navigate to the Service Offering's Parent Service and check the State or Status field.

3. If the state is not valid (e.g., it is set to Retired, Build, or another inactive state), update it to the required state like Active or Operational

The status of a Service Offering is to a degree dependent on the Parent Service. These are validated to ensure you cannot have an "Operational" Service Offering with a Pipeline or Retired Service, which would make no sense. In addition, fields such as Business Owner are sync'ed from the Service to the Service Offering.

 

Note that this relationship is primarily viewed and managed from the Service Portfolio application, where the Phase and Status fields are relevant. From a CMDB perspective the Operational status is the relevant field.
