Hello beautiful people!

I've just landed here in the SN-sphare, and I hope you guys can give me some guidness to where is it wise to start learning about Service Now.

My employer is adapting to ServiceNow i 2027 Q2, and I would like to start preparing for this upcoming change. Any thoughts on how, and with what should I begin my ServiceNow journey? Absolute beginner alert!!!
I have a background in Cyber security, and I work in GRC (Spesifically the risk management part).

Warm regards,
Raven

Hello @raven_gaze ,

I'd recommend ServiceNow's official learning resources on Now Learning and the Developer Program site. Don't worry about becoming a developer immediately. Understanding the platform and how your organization's GRC processes map to ServiceNow should be your first priority.

Below are the key points which you should focused on :

1. ServiceNow Administration (CSA)—Start with the System Administrator learning path and prepare for the CSA certification. Learn users, groups, tables, forms, lists, security, notifications, update sets, and platform fundamentals.

2. Scripting – Spend time learning JavaScript along with ServiceNow scripting concepts like Client Scripts, Business Rules, Script Includes, GlideRecord, GlideAjax, UI Actions, and Flow Designer. Strong scripting skills are expected in most ServiceNow roles.

3. ITSM Fundamentals – Get hands-on with Incident, Problem, Change, Knowledge, Service Catalog, and Request Management. These are the most commonly used modules in real-world projects.

4. Build on a Personal Developer Instance (PDI) – Create your own applications and implement real-world use cases instead of only following tutorials. Practical experience is what interviewers often look for.

5. Learn Integrations and Automation – Explore REST APIs, Import Sets, Transform Maps, IntegrationHub, and Flow Designer, as these are widely used in projects.

6. Practice Interview Scenarios – Understand common ServiceNow interview questions and be prepared to explain the logic behind your implementations.

Once you're comfortable with the above, you can specialize in modules like HRSD, CSM, GRC, ITOM, or AI-powered capabilities such as Now Assist, depending on your career interests and market demand.

The key is to balance learning with hands-on practice.

If my response helped marked as helpful and accept the solution.

Welcome to the ServiceNow Community, Raven!

Your cybersecurity and GRC background will give you a great foundation, especially if your organization plans to implement ServiceNow Integrated Risk Management (IRM).

I recommend starting with the free introductory courses in Now Learning to understand the platform, including navigation, tables, forms, users, roles, and workflows. From there, explore ServiceNow Administration Fundamentals and consider preparing for the Certified System Administrator certification.

If possible, request a Personal Developer Instance so you can practice while you learn. Since you work in risk management, you can also explore IRM topics such as risk identification, assessments, controls, issues, and risk response.

I would ask your employer which ServiceNow products they plan to implement. Since you work in GRC, IRM may be especially relevant, but confirming the implementation scope will help you focus your learning.

IRM is the area I currently work in, so once you understand the platform fundamentals, I’m happy to help answer any questions as you begin exploring it.

Most importantly, continue to connect with the community and ask questions.

Welcome to the ecosystem!
