Simply said, "customers" are organization who pays you. "Partners" are organization who you works with.

For example, ServiceNow customers are those who paying to use ServiceNow. Partners are those working with ServiceNow often offering additional services to customers.

Customer is the one you sell to.

Partner is the one helping you.

 

If company A sells something to customer C. C is the Customer of A.

If A needs to provide something that is not their expertise, they might contact another company, company B. A and B are partners.

To be exact, your definition of a customer is wrong.

If you look at any dictionary, a customer is a person or business who buys or purchase from you and not a person or business who you sell to.
