Hello all,
I’m Dheeraj Sudan, and my wife, Meenu Hinduja, is currently working on a CRM project for a BFSI client. We’re facing some challenges with our workflow automation: we need to handle errors gracefully at each step while ensuring that duplicate work orders or customer records aren’t created.
If anyone has any suggestions, I am all ears. Thanks

Hi Dheeraj,
I would suggest handling this through Flow Designer using error handling and duplicate checks before creating records. This will help avoid unnecessary records and make the workflow easier to maintain.
Use Error Handler logic in Flow Designer to capture failures at individual steps and define retry or fallback actions.
Add a Look Up Records action before creating a customer or work order to check whether a matching record already exists.
Use unique identifiers such as Customer ID, external reference ID or Work Order Number rather than relying only on names.
Configure Unique Indexes on appropriate fields at the database level to prevent duplicate records, even when multiple flows run simultaneously.
Maintain an error log with the failed record, error message and execution details for troubleshooting.
Use Try/Catch handling in custom Script Includes if you are implementing the logic through scripts.
I would recommend combining Flow Designer error handling with database-level unique constraints. This provides better protection against duplicate records and makes failures easier to troubleshoot.
You can refer to ServiceNow Flow Designer documentation for error handling and flow execution details.
