Hi Everyone!
In this blog, I'll be exploring the fresh features introduced to the ServiceNow Mobile Platform with the Washington DC release!
-Offline Support in Now Mobile Apps 📶
Responding to popular demand, ServiceNow has upgraded its mobile application offerings by introducing offline support.
This enhancement allows for uninterrupted productivity, even in the absence of an internet connection.
With this feature, apps like ServiceNow Mobile Agent, Now Mobile, and any custom-developed apps can continue to operate offline, significantly improving user productivity.
To enable it, follow these steps:
- Navigate to All > System Mobile > Mobile App Builder.
- Search for the application scope you’re working in and then select the name of the application scope.
The Mobile App Builder categories home screen displays.
- Select Mobile app configs, and then select the mobile app record you want to configure offline mode in.
- Under Mobile push application, select which app type the offline scheduled download should be associated with.
- Under Settings, toggle Offline enabled.
-Overriding Critical Alerts 📣
ServiceNow Mobile now features support for Critical Alerts, a highly requested functionality by several of our major clients. Critical Alerts are designed to bypass the Do Not Disturb settings on a user's device, ensuring that vital notifications are delivered without delay. To leverage this capability, three key steps are required:
- Activation of Critical Alerts must first be enabled through the mobile system properties within ServiceNow.
- Administrators then need to specify which push notifications should be classified as critical, marking them accordingly.
- On the user's end, there must be an acceptance of receiving Critical Alerts on their device. This can be configured to prompt the user once or to persistently ask until the user grants permission.
-Dynamic Pop-Ups 🎈
In the release, ServiceNow introduces the ability to create mobile popups through Mobile App Builder, catering to the need for on-the-spot verification or notifications, such as user acknowledgment of terms and conditions or alerting agents about time constraints on tasks.
This feature not only allows for critical information dissemination but also comes packed with customizable options for user interaction.
Developers can choose to blur the background for focus or keep it clear, and configure whether a popup can be dismissed by tapping outside the window. This level of customization enhances the user experience by providing flexibility in how information is presented and interacted with on mobile devices.
-Zero Trust Access for Mobile Apps🔐
ServiceNow Mobile Platform has now incorporated Zero Trust Access, a security framework designed to enhance protection by implementing strict access controls. This advanced feature operates by evaluating various factors such as IP address, geographical location, and identity provider attributes to dynamically adjust user roles and permissions, offering a robust layer of security against unauthorized access.
This integration of Zero Trust Access into the ServiceNow Mobile App not only secures access from potentially compromised devices or locations but also plays a crucial role in safeguarding against data breaches, especially in scenarios involving high-privileged users.
-ServiceNow Mobile SDK 🛠️
For the developers out there, the Mobile SDK is now available in the ServiceNow Store! This toolkit enables the development of native iOS and Android apps that integrate seamlessly with ServiceNow's data and workflows, opening up a realm of customization and innovation.
-Data Visualization User Experience Upgrade 📊
The introduction of Platform Analytics brings a unified end-to-end experience for data visualizations on the ServiceNow Mobile Platform, simplifying the creation of charts and reports for mobile users through a single developer interface.
This feature is optional in the Washington D.C. release and will become the default in the upcoming Xanadu release.
Developers are encouraged to start exploring this new capability and to select the "Data Visualizations" option instead of the legacy "Reports and Performance Analytics" to fully leverage the benefits of the new feature.
-Now Assist in Virtual Agent for Mobile 🤖
It wouldn't be a complete blog without mentioning AI. So, let's highlight how ServiceNow's Virtual Agent is supercharged with Now Assist in Native Mobile Virtual Agent, which uses generative AI to offer more direct, relevant, and conversational responses to questions. This integration of AI technology significantly enhances the virtual assistance experience, making it more intuitive and effective for users.
