Introducing the 2025 Devvies App of the Year....GCWalkUp!
We’re thrilled to crown the winner of the 2025 Devvies App of the Year Award, GCWalkUp! Built to modernize in-person student services, this app transforms the outdated, paper-based queuing system into a smart, digital-first experience built on the ServiceNow AI Platform.
Today, GC WalkUp is live across seven campuses, supports tens of thousands of check-ins, and was named App of the Year at the 2025 ServiceNow Devvies. Let's explore how this game-changing student service solution came to life.
The Challenge: Long Lines and Manual Processes
Before GCWalkUp, students at Georgian College navigating essential offices like the registrar, welcome center, and international center faced long wait times, frequent misdirection, and missed service alerts—largely due to an outdated, paper-based queuing system and static lobby announcements.
The Solution: GCWalkUp
To address these challenges, the team customized and extended the ServiceNow Walk-Up platform to create a centralized, kiosk-based solution. Students and guests can now check in at kiosks located across campus, specify the reason for their visit, and instantly receive a digital ticket with real-time queue updates and directions to the correct service area.
Behind the Build
The app addressed the core problems of inefficient queuing, misdirected inquiries, and lack of actionable data, delivering a seamless, user-friendly experience.
Over 80 update sets and 1,000 platform changes were implemented to deliver a seamless, scalable solution. Built using a wide range of ServiceNow tools—including UI Builder / Next Experience, Workspace, REST APIs, Third-Party APIs, Notifications, Flow Designer, and Business Rules—the app is a testament to what’s possible when creativity meets platform power.

- Multi-channel check-in: Kiosks, tablets, and desktop interfaces for flexible access
- Smart messaging integration: Twilio APIs for real-time SMS and WhatsApp notifications
- Campus navigation: Built-in campus navigation to guide users to the right location
- Real-time queue management: Custom dashboards for staff to monitor appointments, wait times, and service volumes
- Modern display experience: Svelte-based front end and ElectronJS-powered service area displays for clean, intuitive visuals
With plans to integrate virtual agents, knowledge articles, and live chat support next, these upgrades will further reduce operational costs, improve accessibility, and enhance the overall user experience for students at Georgian College.
