Technical FAQs

What are the usage limits?

For Personal Developer Instances (PDI), there is a limit of 10 prompts per instance per month. For customer instances that acquire Build Agent from the ServiceNow Store, there is a limit of 25 prompts per instance per month. For instances that are licensed for Now Assist for Creator, limits are based on your license.

When are usage limits reset?

PDI usage limits for Build Agent prompts reset every 30 days starting from the day on which the limit is set.

What if I run out of usage or used all my prompts before this challenge?

The limit is per instance, so you can elect to release your current PDI and request a new one, which will reset the usage count. Remember to back up any important work on your instance before you release it.

How long can each prompt be?

Very long. Feel free to be as simple or verbose as you want in each prompt. You can copy and paste large console logs, lengthy Product Requirement Documentation, or even huge error messages.

What else does Build Agent handle besides writing the code?

  • Compiling and validating source files
  • Testing of its own files
  • Pushing builds into the instance

How does Build Agent differ from AI Agents or Agentic AI?

While both names share “Agent,” Build Agent focuses on dev automation, whereas AI Agent (Agentic AI) focuses on task automation within workflows. Build Agent is an AI Agent.

What are the limitations of Build Agent?

Generally speaking, Build Agent is currently limited to the following abilities:

  • ServiceNow Fluent via the ServiceNow SDK
  • React based web components for user interfaces

To see what ServiceNow metadata that Build Agent is able to create and edit on your behalf (like business rules, client scripts, tables, etc.), check out the documentation for Fluent here:

https://www.servicenow.com/docs/bundle/zurich-application-development/page/build/servicenow-sdk/conc...

That means Build Agent’s scope is currently explicit. If it is not part of the Fluent SDK, then it cannot build it. But that also means that the capabilities of Build Agent are constantly growing as more and more metadata types are being added to the Fluent framework.

What that will look like as you build your applications: Build Agent will elect to write scripted code instead of building a Flow Designer action or flow. Or another example: telling Build Agent to build something that it doesn’t have access to and forcing it to move forward despite this might cause it to build it a different way or simulate that it built it.

Always remember that Build Agent is utilizing generative AI and can hallucinate.

Where can I learn more about Build Agent and how to acquire it for my company?

Read more about the product of Build Agent and Enterprise Vibe Coding at https://www.servicenow.com/products/vibe-coding.html#faq, including questions regarding governance and how Build Agent relates to App Engine.

Hello everyone,

I’m excited to share my submission for the #BuildWithBuildAgent Challenge! This year’s theme encouraged us to unleash the full power of ServiceNow’s agentic AI — and I’m amazed by what Build Agent can accomplish with a single well-crafted prompt.

For my project, I built CampusOps AI, a unified operations hub designed for modern campuses. It seamlessly brings together Maintenance Operations and Cafeteria Experience Management into one intelligent, student-friendly platform — all generated end-to-end using Build Agent in the ServiceNow IDE.

🧩 What I Built: CampusOps AI

A complete campus operations system featuring:

🔧 Maintenance Module
• AI complaint classification
• Auto-routing to technicians
• SLA & escalation workflows
• Technician workspace
• Assignment history

🍽Cafeteria Module
• Daily menu
• Student feedback collection
• Sentiment analysis
• Dish popularity insights
• 7-day demand forecasting

Build Agent generated tables, flows, portals, dashboards, ACLs, APIs, seed data, documentation, diagnostics fixes — and a complete React-based UI — automatically.

🧠 Initial Prompt Used (Full Build Instruction)

“Build ‘CampusOps AI’: a React-based campus app with two modules — Maintenance (AI complaint classification, auto-routing, SLA + escalation, technician workspace) and Cafeteria (daily menu, feedback, sentiment analysis, popularity tracking, 7-day forecast). Create tables for complaints, maintenance categories, assignment history, menu items, menu feedback, and popularity stats. Add flows for intake, assignment, notifications, escalation, and feedback processing. Build portals: Landing, Student, Technician, Maintenance Dashboard, Cafeteria Dashboard, Admin Settings. Add ACLs for student/technician/manager/admin. Include notifications, a POST /api/campusops/v1/complaints endpoint, seed data (10 complaints + 7-day menu), debug console, diagnostics, README, contest write-up, demo script, app export, and demo user credentials. Fix errors automatically and deliver a complete, demo-ready app end-to-end.”

Building the “Housekeeping Coach” App Using ServiceNow Build Agent

Hello Community,

I’ve just completed the ServiceNow Build Agent challenge and built a fun, practical app called “Housekeeping Coach.”

This app helps users:
✔ Generate cleaning schedules
✔ Join organizing challenges
✔ Receive weekly tidy tasks
✔ Get motivational reminders
✔ Track progress through visual dashboards

Mariam07_0-1763396032195.pngMariam07_1-1763396058234.png

Mariam07_2-1763396083693.png

Build Agent generated all tables, forms, lists, and dashboards automatically based on my prompt, which was amazing to watch! The speed and accuracy of the AI were impressive.

Although Build Agent produced a wonderful AI-built app, I did notice that some automations like Business Rules weren’t fully functional and required manual adjustments afterward. Still, the overall experience was smooth, enjoyable, and extremely productive.

I've just started to work on the #BuildWithAgent challenge, provided annually by ServiceNow, and I could not be more excited with the results.

My main goal was to create a Service Portal, for a burger shop (that I’ve named “Howkins Burger”), informing the latest 5 news, the latest 5 priority 1 tickets, a button to submit a new ticket and a button for every ticket entry, to see its details. I also wanted to display a chart of all severities and a map of all burger shops.

That was my first prompt:

"I want to create a Service Portal for the Howkins Burger company. In this portal, I want to view all the latest 5 news, and the latest 5 priority 1 tickets. Create a button to submit a new ticket. The theme's main colors must be yellow and black."

Next, I moved on to creating a dashboard that organized all tickets by priority. Once again, the agent understood perfectly what I had in mind. To achieve this, I've used the following prompt:

"Create a chart in order to show all the tickets, separated by priorities. Create tickets, using different priorities to populate the chart. The chart must use the colors of the main theme".

To wrap things up, I asked for a world map showing all Howkins Burger locations — and the result turned out great. Here's the final prompt:

"Create a world map and place 40 burger shops around the USA and Brazil. Spread them randomly in these two countries. Zoom in until only North and South America are visible on the map".

This challenge was a lot of fun, and it reinforced how powerful and promising the Build Agent really is.

Can not wait to #BuildWithAgent on my daily bases.

🚀Built an End-to-End Election Management Application Using the ServiceNow Build Agent

Last week’s elections in one of the Indian states sparked an idea:
Can we build a complete Election Management system on ServiceNow using the Build Agent?

I experimented — and within 15–20 minutes, the ServiceNow Build Agent generated a fully functional scoped application that I could deploy and refine on my PDI. With a well-structured prompt and a clear vision, the output was surprisingly accurate and required minimal adjustments.

🎯Use Case Overview

🗳️Voter Experience (Voter Portal)

On election day:

  • A voter logs into the portal.

  • They can see the active election for their constituency.

  • The system displays all contesting candidates.

  • The voter selects a candidate and casts their vote securely.

  • If they revisit, the system shows that their vote is already submitted — preventing duplicate voting.

👨‍💼Admin Experience (Admin Dashboard)

The Election Admin gets access to a real-time monitoring dashboard:

  • Dashboard refreshes every 5 seconds.

  • Displays live vote counts by candidate/party.

  • Provides a clear, role-restricted monitoring view.

🔐Safeguards Implemented

  • One person, one vote — enforced by logic in the application.

  • Role-based access — only users with the Voter role can vote.

  • Admins get a streamlined dashboard with read-only insights.

🛠How the Build Agent Helped

  • Generated the entire scoped application structure.

  • Created tables, forms, access controls, and basic UI.

  • Provided a strong foundation to iterate on.

  • Allowed me to focus on logic, workflow, and UI refinement.

The key was crafting a clear, descriptive prompt, rather than depending on the agent blindly.

I recently leveraged ServiceNow Build Agent to solve a common IT challenge: automatically recovering from email delivery failures. The app I built monitors for incidents where users report not receiving emails or when an email send fails. It then resets the bounce count for affected email addresses and requeues failed emails for delivery, helping ensure important communications get through without manual intervention. This automation streamlines support, reduces downtime, and improves user experience.

Want to try it? Here’s how:
• Make sure your Personal Developer Instance (PDI) is on Yokohama Patch 8 or Zurich.
• Upgrade your instance if needed, the Build Agent plugin installs automatically.
• Go to ServiceNow Studio and select ServiceNow IDE.
• Create a workspace and start building your app with Build Agent!

Pro tip:
PDI users get 10 prompts, so use them wisely.
Organization instances get 25 prompts.

For tips on writing better prompts, check out this article:

Here’s my submission for the Build Agent Challenge!

I built a Floorplan Asset Tracker to strengthen our security posture and improve onboarding/offboarding workflows by giving IT real-time visibility into user and asset locations. I really enjoyed using the Build Agent as it was incredibly responsive and did a great job explaining how and why it fixed issues throughout the process. I have also already prepared a Proof of Concept document I am sharing with my department heads in order to implement this within our environment.
