Hey y’all! 🤠 We’re back and better than ever with another #BuildWith Challenge - this time focused on Robotic Process Automation (RPA)! Harness the power of bots to automate repetitive tasks, boost efficiency, and unlock human creativity. Excited? Intrigued??? Well, then join us in this year's #BuildWithRPA Challenge and experience the future of automation firsthand.

In case you need a refresher on last year’s challenge, #BuildWithAES Challenge saw impressive participation from you, our Community. 171 participants created 335 pieces of content on App Engine Studio that garnered over 29,000 views, shares, and reactions. 🤯 A round of applause and kudos to all of you who participated! 👏🏻 Moving forward, we will be hosting a #BuildWith challenge each fall to spark innovation and showcase features and capabilities across the Now Platform.

So, What Exactly Does RPA Do?

Consider the ServiceNow Robotic Process Automation Hub (RPA Hub) as the central processing unit of a well-oiled machine. This hub commands a collection of high-tech robots that diligently execute manual digital processes at scale. These robots are best suited for automating UI-based tasks such as extracting data from spreadsheets or updating user information in a legacy HR system. Beforehand, legacy systems without APIs were unreachable to the web-based ServiceNow platform; with RPA that is no longer the case! RPA Hub also acts as a supervisor, keeping a close eye on both your attended and unattended robots to ensure they’re functioning properly.

Without further ado, let's kick this challenge off by taking a look at some of the ways RPA has benefitted our Community.  ⬇️

But don’t take their word for it. We've designed this challenge to give you a hands-on experience with RPA and help you discover all the advantages it can offer.

What’s in It for You?

By participating, you will earn a #BuildWithRPA Community badge and even get your hands on a 2023 CreatorCon t-shirt. If you missed out on snagging this exclusive tee at Knowledge, or haven't yet claimed your CreatorCon t-shirt, seize this chance to make it yours!

Hi @laurenmcman,

Happy to share that I have successfully completed #BuildWithRPA challenge from ServiceNow and found it quite interesting. Looking forward to explore further and build custom bots!

Here’s my take on how RPA can help with different tasks.

Corporate Idea: Diagnose and fix API related issues

  • Pick up failed outbound requests from outbound API logs.
  • Perform diagnostic steps to find the issue for e.g., review System Logs to check if script executed properly.
  • Check certain configuration or connectivity issues.
  • Perform resolution steps or prepare diagnostics report for manual review.

Crazy Idea: Post birthday wishes on Facebook (For lazy ones 😁)

  • Connect to an fb account
  • Check Notifications for birthday reminder
  • Navigate to desired profile and post birthday wishes

Hello @laurenmcman

I have completed the #BuildWithRPA challenge, and I have to say that the experience was definitely one of a kind. RPA is indeed a game-changer that revolutionise the way we work in a just a few clicks.

Here we go with some of my ideas for #BuildWithRPA challenge -

Corporate Idea 🏢 : Automated Resignation System
Description:
We can use the RPA to automate the initiation of workflow which includes notifying upcoming resignation, automating the process of collecting company assets, calculating the final pay, benefits, leave balances and any outstanding tasks that need to be completed. RPA can assist in collecting and processing the manager's approval, automatically scheduling exit interviews with HR and send calendar invites accordingly. This will help to make informed decisions and improvements by collecting and compiling data on resignation trends.

Crazy Idea 🌟 : Smart Farm Management
Description:
We can use the RPA to automate the process of collecting and analysing crop health, soil conditions and weather related data allowing farmers to monitor the irrigation, fertilisation and pest control, to utilize automation to create precise planting, harvesting, and crop maintenance schedules, reducing resource waste and increasing yield. This will help to monitor and optimize energy consumption, water usage, leading to cost savings and environment sustainability by maintaining crop quality standards.

Excited to share my ideas after completing #BuildWithRPA!

Corporate Idea:

Imagine RPA bots can help with project management for your team. You feed the chatbot all of the relevant information like client information, deadlines, or tasks. If a team member has a question, they could open the bot and ask. The bot will pull up the relevant information and give them a quick answer to their problems, so they can get back to work. #BuildWithRPA!

Crazy Idea:

Think of RPA bots for university purposes can remind students to submit certain documents for admission or notify them about important events.

Hi there,
Having completed the RPA Challenge (#BuildWithRPA), here are my ideas:

Corporate idea:
Use the RPA framework to automate the purchase order request and fulfillment processes from our legacy finance system that does not have an API (or none that we know of).

Crazy idea:
Use RPA to integrate ServiceNow with manufacturing or packing equipment that uses a basic button interface to run commands and enter values. This would require a physical robot arm.
