For companies with enough resources to allow for separation of duties between the ServiceNow platform owner, lead developer, architect, and that have one or more resources to own the demand management process, we can take a few more steps towards that gold standard of governance which ServiceNow describes in their published white paper.
With these types of resources available to participate in the demand process, it makes sense to provide them a built-for-purpose application to help them size, compare, analyze, and estimate the cost of inbound demands from the business. I'm talking about procuring licenses in ServiceNow to run the agile development apps. With a bit of configuration effort to set up the apps, you'll be able to use the Idea and Demand modules to intake and track all demands in order to shape the tactical and strategic future of the ServiceNow platform.
What you decide to track for each demand, whether you systematically define risks for demands, how you size them, etc. can be as complex as you need. But really you're in control now, so set up the modules in ServiceNow to meet you where you are in your demand management maturity level. For example, if you don't want to define detailed cost plans on the demand, you don't have to.
