Whether they attended in America, the Netherlands, or Australia, many newcomers walked away from Knowledge '22 impressed by the CreatorCon "belle of the ball:" App Engine Studio (AES). This new excitement was in large part due to all of YOU, the ServiceNow developer community, and how you opened up about all of the awesome things you have been building and doing faster than ever. (And AES isn't even a year old yet!) 🎂 Check out the video below featuring some of your exciting stories. ⬇️

But these interviews represent only the tip of the iceberg of what's being created on the ServiceNow platform. And that brings us to the topic at hand: the #BuildWithAES Challenge! We're opening up this #BuildWithAES Challenge to better understand how our developer community is using AES, what use cases its being used for, and which pieces of it are most valuable. Simply try AES yourself if you haven't already, share your AES knowledge, and show how you built your app with AES. You’ll inspire your peers to start developing apps fast in one environment using App Engine Studio.

Don't you worry - here at ServiceNow we're all about a healthy amount of quid pro quo for a job well-done 🤝 We've never seen corporate swag fly off the shelves as fast as our '22 CreatorCon shirts, so we thought that reviving this design one more time (sans the CreatorCon logo) would be a perfect prize for this contest.

Hi Everyone, just hoping I am not the last one to submit the app.

To participate in the #BuildWithAES challenge, I have too created an application that was something I could really relate to and is quite helpful for my personal usage, and can be extended to consumers if added with more functionalities. The application interfaces, security rules and to define the table structure all took me less than an hour and I packed it with a flow and email notifications to build the automation I was after. It was pretty exciting to explore this feature and the potential it has.

So what is the application?
This application is connected with my energy supplier Octopus Energy and I am able to pull my consumption records through their APIs I can monitor my consumption throughout the day or the month via the interfaces.

What is all it does right now?
1. Shows me consumption throughout the day and its effective pricing
2. I can see this on the go on my mobile as I was able to create a mobile-facing interface within minutes
3. Sends me an email whenever there is a surge in my daily consumption
4. An automated flow connecting with my energy provider API and bringing the daily consumption records into the ServiceNow table.

Here is a quick video of the app that I have built and some of the other apps that I was trying -

Here are the links to my social media profiles where I have posted about it -

New to AES, only stumbled across it properly (outside of a PDI) when looking to install it on our instance after seeing this post. Safe to say I'll be using it a lot more now!

Recently upgrading to San Diego (and an upcoming upgrade to Tokyo in a couple of months) I've been playing around with App Engine Studio in order to get the best out of the new features when we switch on Polaris/Next UI and as part of the #BuildWithAES challenge. As such I hopped into AES and created a brand new scoped application. My aim was to create a new "Experience" for our users to use as a Workspace. Having previously configured Agent Workspace, a goal is to encourage usage of a Workspace and drive fulfillers to a consolidated view - a place where they can view their work, search and view other tickets and raise tickets in one place. This also offers up the opportunity to get users to utilise dashboards better as part of their day to day, rather than relying on filters and the App Navigator. Running through the setup of the new Workspace experience was pretty slick and offered a format very similar to Studio, I was asked to list any relevant tables that might be of use to users and I had a new workspace created within a few minutes. Unlike my experience of using UI builder previously (before AES) the new Workspace was already ready to use. The new workspace had a landing page with some useful widgets for me to configure, as well as an already configured "list" module in the menu containing a set of pre-filtered lists for all of the tables that I'd mentioned as being useful (Contacts, Incidents, Requests etc). The "new" record menu is also ready and pre-configured for both Incidents and interactions (which will be useful when setting up Virtual Agent).

Aside from Workspaces I also spent some time exploring AES and I can safely say I'll be using it in development more frequently, creating a catalogue item or record producer within a single pane of view was great, as was being able to configure your table and any views in the same place!

Hi everyone!

This is my entry to the #BuildWithAES Challenge.
App Engine Studio is ServiceNow's low code tool that enables developers of all skill levels to easily and quickly build out apps.
There are two ways you can build an App on App Engine Studio: either by using the numerous pre existing templates that exist for different Business Use Cases or build out your app from scratch.
I have built a Books Requesting App that enables people to place requests for the different books that are available at their location.
The reason why I decided to build out this app is because I am passionate about reading and I wanted to build an application that makes it possible to borrow a book quickly that is available at your location.

Once the book request is approved then users will get an email notifying them of their request being approved.

It was an easy and intuitive experience building an App with AES as the entire process of making an App was broken down into small steps and there were a lot of visual cues provided through the entire process.
It felt magical to see an app up and running so quickly and I cannot wait to build more apps using AES now!
I believe that Low Code Tools are the future as they make technology and innovation accessible and faster and I am looking forward to seeing all the tech disruptions that AES will enable.

Hello All,

Better be late than Never,

Today is my turn for posting my #BuildwithAES challenge for #serviceNow

My Twitter link : #BuildwithAES

As a Functional Manager, I always felt my skills are always limited to the administration part and there should be some option to enrich our skills. Here comes, the #AES - App Engine studio, which provides a vast low code/No code environment and helps us to enrich the skill and quickly turn around the development time. Of course, a Low code/No code environment is having few limitations, but I see it is a very wise decision to go and wrap up a small application or any excel migration to the app that can be used by a Business application owner to create the way they want to work!! For this entire submission, I took less than 40 minutes to develop apart from a well-planned prework!

My Experience Takeaway on #AES

1. Very easy for any noncoder or has less experience in Coding the platform and you need not be an expert. but remember you should have a PRO CODE Friend if you are a NO/LOW Coder 🙂

2. you can build an experience in less than 10 min (provided you have all the complete logic to create any application with a blueprint.)

3. Any business analyst or process owner creates a simple and straightforward record producer, keeping the complex one for his pro developers.

4. My pick is having logic built using UI policies automation using flow designer in a very easy way so anyone can try.

5. At last, AES gives you more curiosity to try a complex application as well which is beyond this #AES, finally it makes you that curious to learn actual code and pushes you toward the journey to pro code developer.

For this challenge , I tried to create an App that I currently maintain in an Excel sheet and use in day-to-day life! Here is the App: Organise - To organize and work Diligently,

I love how fast ServiceNow platform can respond business needs. So I was fascinated about next step ServiceNow did to make it even faster. New tool which makes application development easier, no-code and intuitive is called App Engine Studio. It encourage non developers, people from different areas to build app which solves their needs. That is so cool when people who need new app can just build it in easy drag and drop editor. You don't even need to build it from scratch, you can use some proven template and quickly adjust it to your requirements. In fact that means you can deliver fully functional, end to end app with no development background, no code in less than 10 minutes. So you have many great ideas about apps which can improve your work or work of other people - now you can just implement them - you don't need a team of programmers.
So I decided to try it and make the app to prove how easy it is and encourage others to use such great tool. This is very creator friendly tool which gives less technical people confidence with app building. I wanted to get app which gives me possibility to create newsletters and send them to list of subscribers. I just went through guided setup to provide details of my app and then switched to data editor - creating tables with subscription list and news was matter of 2 minutes. Then got form builder where in one page I was able to design form in drag and drop editor and create UI policy in same editor. I have created additional record producer to add new person to subscription list. In the next guided step with "Logic and automation" I have created notification responsible to send news to all subscribers. Then configuration of security rules was last part of having app ready to use. I was able to build end to end app from building database through forms logic to control access to my app - everything in one editor in 15 minutes. This might be game changer for business.

This is to participate in the #BuildWithAES challenge.

I think I will be the last one to submit the app, but I hope it is not too late. 😃

App: Expertise Portfolio
Purpose: create and maintain a portfolio of certifications, training, project experiences related to the employee.

Reason: I have watched some time ago this video created by Earl Duque: "TikTok Tech Tips Tuesday! Pt. 1: maintain a portfolio", and I was thinking in a simple way an employee could maintain their Certifications, Projects Experience, Business Results, Trainings and other stuff which matters to the professional expertise portfolio.

So, I have created an App with AES (Application Engine Studio), to allow the Employee to add their own experiences to the Expertise Portfolio.

I have created one Portfolio Table and one Record Producer which populates the Portfolio table.

My experience building the App with AES was nice, as the Guidance panel shows in which step you are in the app creation process. It guides you since the beginning, even if you are creating a app from the scratch (wihout a AES Template), it guides you in the Data, Experience (interfaces to allow the user to interact with the app, e.g.: Record Producer), Logic and Automation and Security.

I spent less than 15 minutes to build this simple app (of course, I have created it with simple validation, e.g.: if you choose the Type value = "Certification", you are required to fill the Certification dates).

Thank you!

I am planning to improve this app in order to have more logic, so, as I would add more functionality, I could improve myself with AES (I also plan to add a Workspace Experience for this table and to make the Record Producer available in the Employee Center).

But at this moment, I am impressed about how the AES helped me to create the app (and for sure, as a ServiceNow Developer, if I need to add more complex logic into it, I could also edit it after in the Studio IDE, so, i.e.: I could use the benefits from creating an app from some of the AES Templates available, and after that, I could improve some specific logic with Studio IDE).

PS: this is just for learning purposes, it is essential to say there are ServiceNow Products and Applications available to handle this kind of solution (e.g.: HRSD | HR Service Delivery with the Skill Management, Learning and Coaching...).

Hi Everyone,

This post is to participate in the #BuildWithAES challenge.

I tried to create an Application Software Installation Request App using App Engine Studio.

With this app, people can request the required application software they need in their work environment. It goes to the installation owner for approval, if approved it will be installed by the required date and the request is closed completely or if rejected the request closed incompletely.

Thank you,
