Hello Community,

I have always learned a lot from ServiceNow community, and I feel, it is the time to give back. Here I am going to tell the step-by-step process to participate in Hactoberfest.

We already have a developer blog with a detailed overview on participation and the available repositories.

Recently I have seen many people are confused about this fest participation and having a hard time or new to github. So, this guide is to help them and achieve their first PR.

1. Sign-up or login to GitHub

2. Once you have an account you will have to register for HactoberFest.

3. Once you have registered you will be good to participate in the ServiceNow repositories mentioned in the developer blog.

4. In order to submit your pull requests, Fork the existing repo and it will create a copy in your GitHub account.

5. Repositories are of two types, one where you can directly submit your readme.md and code file (for e.g. code-snippets or syntax_macros). And there are others where you might have to use source control to get the application in your PDI and then do the changes and commit the branch to source control. Once committed then you can submit a pull request to ServiceNow main branch.

6. However each repository will be having a CONTRIBUTING.md file which will give you the steps for the submission guideline so that your request should not be considered as spam.

7. Once you submit your pull request, it will be gone for review and the maintainers will review it and approve/reject or ask for modification in your request.

8. Once your request is approved it will be considered for submission and you will be able to see it in your HactoberFest profile page.

9. Upon approval a request goes to 7 days review period by hactoberfest team and post that it will be counted as your first successful PR.

Below is the recording of an example of PR submission.

Please mark this helpful if you find it so and also bookmark and subscribe the same for future updates.

Thanks,

Mohit Kaushik
