Hello Everyone,

Did you know that with the New York release of ServiceNow you can now edit your ServiceNow applications and files directly in Visual Studio Code with the help of the ServiceNow Extensions for Visual Studio Code?

Note: at present, you can only work on custom applications and can't work on random files in Global Scope.

Visual Studio Code is a fantastic light weight IDE available for Windows, macOS and Linux. With the ServiceNow Extension for VS Code, the following are some of the key features that are supported:

  • Rich Language support: Edit your code with code navigation, syntax highlighting, formatting and more
  • Intellisense: Provides intelligent code-completion for methods and properties of client and server scripts, JS APIs, Glide APIs, Jelly tags / attributes
  • Code snippets for commonly used code patterns (including syntax editor macros)
  • Linting: Get code analysis with ESLint (errors and warnings); JS / HTML / XML syntax validation
  • Ability to run some or all of your code in a background script straight from VS Code and also have the output of the script returned within the IDE
  • Global Search

An example of this functionality may be seen here: VS Code Extension 1.0.0 Overview
