◆ VIBE-CODING · FOLLOW-UP ◆ Six Months Later: VS Code + Claude Code Found Its Niche A short update on where AI-assisted ServiceNow development actually landed for me — and why I haven’t touched code directly on an instance in months. #ServiceNow · #ClaudeCode · #Vibe-Coding |
In my previous posts I shared my experience of building a Custome App (Custom Employee Card recognition app ) using Build Agent (Vibe-Coding a ServiceNow App: What Worked, What Didn’t ). Here is the follow-up.
My take today: VS Code + Claude Code — beefed up with the right tools, skills and MCP connectors — has firmly taken its niche in in-house custom app development.
What Hasn’t Changed

But Here’s What Changed
The interface
VS Code with Claude Code in the terminal is a far more comfortable working environment for me than Studio or the IDE. That sounds like a small thing. It isn’t — it’s the difference between staying in flow and swivel-chairing all day.
Manual intervention got cheap
In many cases where manual work is needed, Claude produces the import XML or background script for me to run. My role is mostly copy-paste.
No-touch delivery
For all our custom apps I haven’t touched a line of code directly on the instance in months. From requirement to app published to the App Repository — all done by Claude. My direct involvement is typically limited to deploying the latest version to production.
How I work with it day to day
During delivery I treat it like a junior-to-mid consultant I can steer toward the right solution. Sometimes I ask how a particular feature was actually implemented, review it through text and diagrams, and nudge it in the right direction when what was built isn’t architecturally optimal or scalable.
See It In Action
I recorded a short video where you can get a glimpse of the app I actually built and the “no-touch” capability in practice.
Overall Take
It is already saving me hundreds of hours. If you have the right context set up, I strongly recommend it — provided your organisation can handle the supporting governance.
