What are the Application Service[cmdb_ci_service_auto] and Business Service[cmdb_ci_service_business] tables used for?
I couldn't understand much from the product documentation, so please let me know.

In ServiceNow, the Application Service [cmdb_ci_service_auto] table and Business Service [cmdb_ci_service_business] table are used to store information about services that are provided by the organization.

The Application Service table is used to store information about IT services that are provided by the organization. This information includes details such as the name of the service, the business owner, the application owner, and the infrastructure that supports the service.

The Business Service table is used to store information about business services that are provided by the organization. This information includes details such as the name of the service, the business owner, the service owner, and the applications and infrastructure that support the service.

Both table are part of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) that is used to store information about all of the IT assets, configuration items (CIs), and services that are used by an organization.

 

Examples of entries that might be found in the Application Service [cmdb_ci_service_auto] table in ServiceNow include:

  • A web-based email service that is used by the organization's employees. The entry in the table might include details such as the name of the service, the business owner, the application owner, the infrastructure that supports the service (such as the servers that host the email service), and the applications that are used in conjunction with the email service (such as a calendar application).
  • An enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that is used to manage the organization's finances and accounting. The entry in the table might include details such as the name of the service, the business owner, the application owner, the infrastructure that supports the service (such as the servers and databases that host the ERP system), and the applications that are used in conjunction with the ERP system (such as a reporting application).

Examples of entries that might be found in the Business Service [cmdb_ci_service_business] table in ServiceNow include:

  • A customer support service that is provided by the organization to its customers. The entry in the table might include details such as the name of the service, the business owner, the service owner, the applications and infrastructure that support the service (such as a CRM system and a phone system), and any other relevant information (such as the average response time for customer support requests).
  • A payroll service that is used to process the organization's payroll. The entry in the table might include details such as the name of the service, the business owner, the service owner, the applications and infrastructure that support the service (such as a payroll processing system and a bank account), and any other relevant information (such as the frequency at which the payroll is processed).
