Approval is not going to Sr. director

I have a requirement where, when a user selects the Sr. Director from the dropdown the approval has to go to that Sr. Director. But when the user selects Sr. Director from the list, the approval is skipped. It works if the Group or Specific user is added in the workflow but skips when Sr. director is set dynamically.

You should probably be using a Flow, not a Workflow. But with that said, the only times I have seen an approval skip like that is if the user is inactive or if your variable is empty.

I am unable to view the contents of your screenshots, but ensure the specific user selected is active and has the itil or aprover_user role.
