Approval request chain is shown correctly in Email notification, but it is not correct in SP

Approval request chain is shown correctly in Email notification, but it is not correct in SP. It is showing all approvers in service portal.

I have one mail script where it has to give the reporting chain till the users manager level is 3 and stop there. Its working fine in notification, but in the self service portal , it is showing all the approvers.

i am not sure I understand, could you please share any screenshots and/or explain what would be considered as required state?

Most likely notifications and service portal (maybe widgets) have completely different configurations, so aren't we talking about two different things?? Thank you
