Auto Populate features is not only applicable for the requested for .

This feature applicable for reference field  in catalog item .

Based on reference field we populate the reference field value to the particular field.

I have attached the following documentation for your reference.

As you can see this auto populate feature applicable for both the reference field .

It is not only costricted with requested for field.
