Business Rule on [sc_req_item] table with filter condition based on CHANGES on referenced catalog item variable value

Hi all.

I'm trying to create a business rule that runs on "Requested Item [sc_req_item]" table and I need to set "When to Run" criteria WHEN: one of catalog item variable type fields (date of birth in this case) changes the value.

I am unable to see 'changes' choice from drop down criteria.
I would appreciate if you share if anybody ran into this issue before, and what's the way around?

P.S. This issue is only when trying to execute business rule based on variable type field changes. Other than that, if you try to create a business rule on any table's field then 'changes' choice is there.

My guess is that because the Variable Pool is shared between the Requested Item [sc_req_item] and Catalog Task [sc_task] tables, this may not show as a change in the record.
