Clarification on new fields in Knowledge Template creation — Are they considered custom fields?

Hi everyone,
I have a question regarding Knowledge Management template creation. When we add new fields while creating or modifying a Knowledge Template, are those fields considered custom fields in the system?
I want to confirm whether these fields are treated as customizations (non-OOTB) from a platform perspective or if they are handled differently within the Knowledge Template configuration.
Any insights or best practices around this would be greatly appreciated.
