We have never cloned our PROD instance to DEV since we went live a year ago. I asked HI about this process and they sent me a link and told me to do it myself.
Anything I need to be aware of for this 1st time cloning process? Pitfalls? Known issues? anything?
Thanks for your help...

Hi Mark,
I cloned my first time about 5 months ago. If you have any open Update Sets, they will be written over. So before the clone happens, export the Update Sets that you want to save. After the clone, you can import them back into the environment.

Hi Mark,
You will find lots of information here: System clone.
Please follow the below procedure for doing the system clone:
Just be aware that, after the clone, all development activities in your DEV instance will NOT be available.
Based on my experience, I've never had any issues or problems with this activity, so just do it and enjoy 🙂
Hope this will fit your need.
Please, remember to mark Correct or Helpful if you find my response useful.
Cheers
Alberto

This is great info, thanks. What does this mean?
"all development activities in your DEV instance will NOT be available."
Are you referring to emails being automatically disabled?
thanks!

As suzanneswanson said, ensure to export all the Update Sets you want to save from DEV.
Can you mark my answer as correct, helpful and hit like if you were able to achieve the requirement. This helps in removing this question from unanswered list and helps users to learn from your thread.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
