Hi @manju12 

CMDB is a series of tables containing all configuration items. it can be tangible or intangible devices such as firewall, emails or services. These CI can be accessed in various modules such as incident, work order , change etc.

 

I have worked on the FSM (Field Service Management ) module where field agents work on the affected CI (like a broken router or device) for assigned work order. The CI gives details about the device and any related services, helping the agent understand the impact and fix the issue faster. Hence proper CMDB (CIs and its relations, health etc..) becomes crucial.

CMDB use cases are very broad across the entire organization. Starting from a request, all the way to the end, SAM/Asset is core, and CIs are needed everywhere.

We use the CMDB in Incident Management, Change Management, Problem Management, and Release as well.
You can also link a CI with an Asset, which enables usage on the ITAM side too.

I would suggest taking the CIS–Data Foundations course, where you can learn more about the CMDB.
