Combine Catalog Items

We want to combine many Catalog Items into a single Order Guide.  Most of these Catalog Items are in the Global scope, but we have a handful that are in various Scoped Applications.

Can you put Catalog Items from different Scoped Applications into the same Order Guide?

Does that cause any issues or things we should be concerned about?

@jmiskey Ideally, you should be able to combine catalog items from different scopes in the Single order guide.

Hope this helps.

Hello @jmiskey ,

-> Order guide can hold multiple record producer/catalog items with different scopes.

-> Few points which should be kept in mind while doing so -

  1. Although all items will execute individually, but dependability (depends on, dependent/order of items) have to be well defined.
  2. If you want to merge existing items into order guide, make sure you define accessibility (Available for, not available for). It can contradict if existing items have different values.
  3. Unified workflow/flow should be defined so that troubleshooting becomes easy in case of any issues.
  4. Variables definition across should be merged if possible.

Kindly mark this as Accepted Solution/Helpful if above info. helps in any way and help in closing this thread.

Shubham,

Excellent points, and I am in the middle of doing a complete analysis right now, going through all the individual Catalog Items that we want to include in this.

I have been checking the Available For/Not Available For values for each one, to make sure that there are not any restrictions on any of these.  And we are looking to standard the high-level variables (like "Requested For").  I will probably make a Variable Set for that, and reference that variable set in each of the Catalog Items to tie those variables into the ones at the Order Guide level.

As much as we would LOVE one unified Flow/Workflow, that just isn't a possibility in this case.  Many of these workflows operate very different, i.e. requiring different levels of Approvals, different Tasks, and some require automation (i.e. adding people to AD groups).  Each Catalog Item already has their own workflow/flow, and I think they will need to continue to use those.
