Computer telephony integration (CTI), how it works and where to start with?

Dear All,
We have a requirement to do the Service Now - CTI integration, before that i have to give the effort level estimation on how much time this would take?
Also would you be able to give me some basic information on how to begin with and how this works ?

Thanks much for the reply, i saw this link earlier, what i'm missing is, is there a plugin for this integration? where do i install the CTI client? how to start up the integration.
I'm completely Newbie in this part

thanks Sergiu, i was referring that.
Have you done this integration? if so, how much time it might take for a newbie for implementing an end to end solution? i need this to put it in an effort estimation sheet for now.
