Custom Button/Link on banner for UI16

anyone had a success in creating a custom button on ServiceNow UI16 banner with a link to open in same tab.

and this button has to be clearly visible all the time on the banner. I'm unsure if this really cause any trouble. at least it would be great to know the reason if it is not a good practice.

Rather than go through the trouble of making something custom that needs to be built, maintained, and tested especially for upgrades... why not use something OOB. How about just make a module for the service portal? We have an app menu in the navigation called "Quick Links" - sort of "short cuts/favorites for everyone." The ESM portal takes you to the Enterprise Service Management (Service Portal) portal. Takes about 60 seconds to build.
