Duplicate Assignment groups

Hello,

I'm working in a domain separated instance of ServiceNow and within a customer's domain they would like to have an assignment group hierarchy where some of the child assignment groups have the same name across varying parent groups. Trying to set this up I'm presented with an error message (Unique Key violation detected by database (Duplicate entry 'IT Support Technicians' for key 'sys_user_group_u'))

Is there a reason I'm not able to create duplicate assignment groups? How can I fulfill this customer's requirement?

much appreicated!

Even if it lets you do it (which it looks like it won't) that would be a terrible idea.

From the reference field box, you don't see what the parent is - so if you type that name in you will get 5 choices that look identical.

The best solution is to add a prefix to the groups, your biggest challenge is convincing the customer!

Thanks, that's actually something I didn't think about - because of their intended use case it never occurred to me that someone might type "IT Support" and see the duplicated options, which would lead the further confusion around which one is the right one.

I can certainly convince the customer that a prefix would be needed.

Much appreciated to you and Chuck.

Hi Kyren,

The idea is that the names should be unique so you don't see multiple entries for "Service Desk" (for example) and you don't know which domain or parent group that goes with. This is controlled by the 'Unique' checkbox on the name field on the sys_user_group table. I strongly recommend keeping it turned on and using a prefix or suffix to keep the names recognizable.

Example:

Name: Parent 1> Service Desk

Name: Parent 2> Service Desk
