Excited and nervous: Waiting for the Next-Gen program in April.

Hello everyone!

I’m reaching out because I’ve just finished the initial fundamentals and I’m eagerly waiting for the ServiceNow Next-Gen program which starts this April. I’m incredibly excited about the possibility of being selected!

Here’s the thing: I have zero background in IT or coding. I’m starting from a completely blank slate, but I’ve found myself really fascinated by the platform. I especially want to learn how to write code (scripting) in the future, even though it looks like magic to me right now! 😅

Since I have some time until April, what would you recommend for a total beginner to look into? I really want to use this time to prepare so I can give it my best if I get into the Next-Gen program.

Any advice, resources, or encouragement would mean the world to me! 😊

Hi @Tamari,

I am not familiar with the complexity of the Next-Gen program, but what can definitely help you is to take the following courses:

With the latter two you can see a set of predefined courses and taking them can only help you as it is relevant to pretty much any role in ServiceNow universe.

I wish you every success! 🚀

Hello @GlideFather, thanks a lot for the links and the encouragement! I really hope to get in, as I'm very excited about the opportunity.

I'll definitely check out the CSA paths on Now Learning. It's a bit scary to start with the zero IT background, but having a clear path like this makes me feel much more confident.

Thanks for making the time to help me out! 👍

Hi @Tamari

First of all, congratulations on being selected for the RiseUp program! You will gain more and more learning opportunities throughout the program.

As a ServiceNow trainer, I’d like to share some advice based on my experience.

Since you mentioned that you have time, you can start with the CSA (Certified System Administrator) journey, as most of the fundamentals will be covered during the training sessions.

Before or alongside that, I recommend you build a basic understanding of:

  • ITIL concepts and ITIL processes

  • Basic JavaScript

  • Agile methodology

I wouldn’t strongly recommend starting the full ServiceNow journey independently right now, because you will be getting live sessions where everything will be explained in detail. However, the foundational topics I mentioned are equally important.

So, spend some time outside of ServiceNow learning about business analysis as well. It will help you understand requirements and processes much better.

Hello, @Dr Atul G- LNG, thank you so much for the advice! Just to clarify, I'm still in waiting phase for the final selection results, but I'm really dreaming of getting a positive answer so I can start this journey.

Since I have some free time now, I will follow your suggestions about ITIL, Javascript and Agile. I will start looking into them now to get ready.

Thank you for being so helpful and encouraging! 😊
