How many of you are using Instance Scan feature? If yes, how its helping you?

We get a health scan once in 6 months and do remediations accordingly.

Someone one told me why dont you use Instance scan? Then I started looking at it.. it has very few checks OOTB like around 120 checks, while in Health scan, ServiceNow has got 1000 plus checks.

I was wondering do people really use Instance scan? If yes, let me know which 'Check' is useful you? How are you exploiting this feature?

Please reply if you are really using it/used it in past. Please share your experience with Instance scan, as I am feeling that its an obsolete product.

PS - I am talking about OOB check only. I am not talking wrt writing custom checks.. We cant spend lot of time to write such 100s of checks.

I completely agree with you that Instance Scan is not suited to replace the Health Scan.

If you look at the Category field of the OOTB Scans you'll see that the vast majority is related to Security, and the few remaining ones are about Manageability. On the other hand, Health Scan has many other categories that are not covered by Instance Scan, like Upgradeability and User Experience.

Therefore I also have not used Instance Scan before, or seen it used by a customer.

That is not to say that it's completely useless. With its focus on Security checks, Instance Scan may discover a few things that Health Scan doesn't. But you would have to review or run the checks/suites yourself to find out if there is something that is relevant for you.

I also want to highlight that I've seen ServiceNow provide the Health Scan once per month, instead of only every 6 months. So if you would like to have more up to date results you can ask your support account manager for more frequent updates.

Health Scan? I thought you already have that because you said "We get a health scan once in 6 months and do remediations accordingly."

Or are you asking about Instance Scan? It's a platform feature that is enabled by default.

1 Does ServiceNow provide it automatically for every customer or we need to request it?

2 Is there any cost for that?

PS - I did mention that we get health scan once in 6 months. But I am not sure how we get it. Just that my manager send that report to us every 6 months once.
