How to build report with parameters

Dear all,

I need to build a report where use can select the record for which data gets display. The reason for this is to be able to make report data based on a given record ID.

For exemple :

Let say that I would like to make a report on activities . Activies have different categories. Instead of having different view showing all activities. I would like to get a single report view in which I pass in the Activity category as a filter

Then report will show only data related to this category pass as parameter to the report

What is the way to have such feature selection in report ?
