How to enable the show Compact card toggle switch on visual task board?

I have a requirement to use multiple swim lanes in our Visual task board however once we enable it we noticed that the show compact card toggle is true and disabled. Making the cards to show limited information which is not ideal. Unlike when we only have a single swim lanes other fields can be added. Are there any configuration we need to do to enable the show compact card toggle or how can we add other fields on the card to make it more readable?

I did some more searching and this is what I found. I found this nugget of an answer
Compact Cards are turned on and can't be turned off in flexible VTBs that use swim lanes and there isn't a way around it. ServiceNow's reasoning behind the decision is that the development team was worried that using the full sized cards would use up too much screen real estate, making the VTB unusable.
