How to force Tablet Mode on Desktop Browser? (Helsinki)

As written on docs the $tablet.do URL does not work anymore with Helsinki.

I am not looking for $m.do, that is working fine for Mobile Interface.

How to force Tablet Mode on a Desktop Browser to check some development?

Correct. There are now only two modes:


  • desktop
  • mobile


What's slightly confusing is how they are displayed: it's a combination of the client environment and client device.   These are the combinations:


  1. browser on desktop = use DESKTOP
  2. browser on tablet = use DESKTOP
  3. browser on mobile phone = use MOBILE (i.e.: $m.do)
  4. app on mobile = use MOBILE
  5. app on tablet = use MOBILE
  6. app on desktop = doesn't exist.


So you can see the tablet is slightly torn between the mobile and desktop versions, depending upon how the instance is accessed.

If your instance is an updated Geneva instance then most likely it's still a hangover from previous incarnations. If it's a fresh Helsinki build you should see something like:

If you've done an upgrade, you may also be missing some niceties found in a stock Helsinki instance (given that the test data in Geneva is treated as "customer data" and not replaced with Helsinki stock test data).  



In particular I found the following caught me out:


  • nicer range of products in the Service Catalogue (the S6 is ablaze!)
  • RITMs now have SCTASK# not TASK# as part of the fulfilment process
  • A "New Hire" order guide that illustrates different bundles according to chosen options.
  • The list of reports includes a Map type


Initially I zbooted my Geneva instance then did an upgrade - but found a fresh Helsinki build was closer to the lab instances I use for training.   Hope that helps, Chuck lad!


We are on Helsinki P5 and we are still able to access $tablet.do , Do you have any idea how to get it fixed so that tablet users will be redirected to desktop view?

I can't test this here, but in Geneva I found a trick when stuck on $tablet.do was to access $m.do then pick "desktop view" from the menu - it forced a return back to non-mobile view.



My Helsinki instance no longer contains these pages so I cannot try it out, sorry.
