I'm doing a bulk asset upload by using the simple Excel import functionality (read: not using any transform maps), with different types of assets (laptops, computers, cellphones, monitors, etc). All Model categories are in place, so the correct CIs will be created, but how I have a problem setting the Model Category. When uploading the excel sheet, it complains that 'Model category' is an unknown field. Why is it complaining? We all know it exists... I noticed I cannot change the model after insertion, so why can I not set the Model category?
Update: Manually entering data into the import rows works fine. But the model data just is not moved from the excel file to the import rows... Why...

But,i think the data is not loading in import set itself.Model and Model Categories are ignore while importing data.
Transform map will work fine, if we have values in the import set

Just had this at my client with Model and Model Category
I had to disable the ACL on those fields to allow the import as the OOB ACL only allows this to be set on create. (Quite why that has stopped an import I am not sure)
Disabled the ACL, imported the data, Reset the ACL's

So I was having the same issue. The only work around I found was to add a sort field to your data. Something that tells you what to update the "Product Categories" to. Import the data and sort on that field. After you sort on the field you can right click on a column header and select "Update All". The system will ask you if you want to update the specific number of records in your sort. After that update the "Product Categories" field and save.
Hope this helps someone.
